[This isn't an official entry for The Apple, the Snake, and the Angel and won't be posted there, but PS and I have been chatting a bit about how things might look between 1908 and 1945... *grin*]


Parenthood hadn’t mellowed out da Silva a single whit. In fact, if the steady stream of scathing memos from Barton Street were any indication, it had pared the man’s threshold for tolerating fools from low to none.

Pettigrew hadn’t expected his first briefing at da Silva’s home to be so pleasant. Tea was delicious, the chairs comfortably well cushioned, and da Silva uncharacteristically congenial, even when Curtis kept excusing himself to attend to an apparently unhappy child, although the screaming was audible only when the door was open.

“The right partner does makes things more manageable,” da Silva eventually allowed.
