Because Church Street happens to be where "so many things gay reside" (to quote
Church Street Freedom Press), including a
GLBT bookstore,
Tribe and Red,
Play, and Blue Gene's ("putting neighborhood bar feel in the gay district of Church Street").
The Hustler Hollywood store is also on Church. The irony does indeed amuse a good many locals.
I've not visited any of these places myself, but I'm very glad that they are here and thriving. For that matter, I live within walking distance of the
Lipstick Lounge in "quaint-but-queer East Nashville" -- it's too blessed loud for me to bother, but our dogsitter likes breakfast there.
Also, I keep running into people from
my church at what could be called my other church on Church,
the downtown public library.
Speaking of church, a couple of hymns have been running through my head tonight as I work and clean. I think some of it's the drugs (had to resort to some Midol before dinner), some of it's frustration at my limits, and some of it's fretting about and over various kindred spirits. FWIW...
( Though with pain I made my way... )If you have known love,
give some back
to a bruised and hurting world.
Go in peace.
