bronze_ribbonsI realized earlier today that while I had sent several Postagrams to friends back in 2012 when I was traveling around the Carolinas, I hadn't actually uploaded the snapshots I took during my visit to Mepkin Abbey, the monastery that now occupies the land formerly owned by the Laurens family, and later by Henry and Clare Boothe Luce. The brothers' agricultural specialty is mushrooms. Clicking on the images will take you to the Flickr album.
There are three other burial/interment areas on the grounds -- an African American cemetery, a columbarium, and a Luce family plot. To reach the African American cemetery, one walks past fields of cotton, which in early December contained hundreds of bolls.
