bronze_ribbonsStill no writing done, although I started drafting a story in my head while making dinner last night (teriyaki pork tenderloin with red peppers, steamed broccoli, and potato salad). Yesterday turned out to be pretty full: two church services (for which I was the lay leader), a finance meeting, some catch-up time at the office, a couple of hours in the garden (potted the patio tomato plant and sowed beets and spinach), and a fair amount of crocheting.
This American Life's episode on animals was. . .diverting. . ., and The Next Big Thing kept cracking me up, especially the segment on a cemetery in the Bronx and the vagaries of fame (at one point, the interviewer plaintively asked "Where the heck are we!?" while hunting for Herman Melville's grave).
This morning's workout was helping pick up litter along the church's adopted stretch of highway. There are now three garbage bags full of recyclables in the back of my car. The bags we left for Metro to collect included innumerable cigarette packs (grrr!), two pairs of panties, a blue and white bra, a baseball cap, a pregnancy tester, a child's sandal, and heaps of junk food wrappers. There were also the flattened remains of a fluffy gray spaniel, some of the fattest purple thistles I'd ever seen, and daisies and buttercups and a gajillion needle-burrs (next time I'm double-gloving).
The plan for the rest of the day: catch up on note-writing and desk-clearing, put in a couple of hours of research, nosh on leftovers and watch the Miss Universe pageant (damn right I'm shallow).
