The poll officer, on the phone to his wife: "Turnout's been low, but the day's zipped on by. I think I've been unconscious for long periods of time."

County primary today = my ninth or tenth election as a poll official. I knew it was going to be slooooow (and it was -- only 278 voters (not counting early and absentee ballots) out of a possible 5000+), so I brought along my laptop and crocheting. Net results: ~ 25 pages beta'd, 2 drabbles written, the start of a long-overdue email, a smidge of low-key fangirling (one of my neighbors is an accomplished local actress who was in the recent production of Metamorphoses at the Parthenon), a few more rows on the blanket I'm currently making for Project Linus, and two large bags of partially-finished projects and unused skeins (from a voter who asked, might I need more yarn, because she wanted to offload the stash in her car...)

Poll officer: What are you making?
Peg: Blanket. *holds up giant square with sizable holes in it*
Poll officer: It's a Texas mosquito net!
