It really isn't safe to let me loose in "international markets." This afternoon's haul...

(for a project at work)
beef-flavored soup-in-a-cup
instant pho-in-a-cup
miso ramen
black sesame Pocky
frozen red and white mochi
soup
sesame oil
a pretty tin of genmaicha (green tea + brown rice)
furikake (bonito + sesame seeds)
white glutinous rice flour
roasted hot green peas
sesame candy
sesame-flavored dressing

(to restock my pantry and fridge)
shredded squid
frozen pork buns
frozen edamame
plantain chips
ramen
candied ginger
ready-to-eat palak paneer
oyster sauce
slivered almonds
two pounds of baby eggplants (OMG. So cute!)
two packages frozen paneer
a purple onion and a yellow onion (since I was there anyway...)

(out of sheer curiosity)
tamarind candy
"Squid" brand fish sauce (which is mainly water and anchovy extract, apparently)
dried platycoden
roasted sweet potato cookies
a quart of pomegranate juice (...from Azerbaijan. In the Indian-owned market.)

I'm disturbed that buying shredded squid is, for you, "restocking the pantry." That's kind of...scary.

I feel so white-bread in comparison.

Shredded squid is no weirder than beef jerky. IMNSHO.

White bread, on the other hand, is utterly unnatural. :-p

I wouldn't touch beef jerky with a ten-foot pole. I will admit to occasionally eating white bread, but my parents buy the fancy homestyle kind for their morning toast. Otherwise, we all eat pretentious bakery bread.

I might be acquiring a Chinese housemate. I anticipate that my fridge will soon contain fish sauce.

What, no carrots to keep the eggplants company? You're so mean!

Truly, you are a cruel, cruel woman. The carrots have decided that you're first against the wall when the veggies take over the world, I'm sure. *g*

(I should probably be scared of myself when I read someone's grocery list and what comes to mind is, "I think I wrote a fic like that once.")

(And even more scared of myself when "baby eggplants" makes me think, "Oooh! MPreg sequel!")

Yes, and also the Oriental market at 11th and Charlotte.

Still can't find tarama anywhere near my usual haunts, though. My father-in-law's keen on the new K&S superstore around 58th and Charlotte; I may have to schlep myself out there someday, but it won't be this week...

I'm looking forward to trying them, but not tonight. (We went to a family-style Italian restaurant for a colleague's farewell party earlier tonight, so it may be a couple of days before I feel like eating again...)

Pomegranate juice is delicious. And tamarind.

(I hadn't heard of oyster sauce before, but I should have. It's such a typical thing.)
