A kids' book author I know once worried that he might be on rocky ground with his characterization of a three-legged dog, so asked a group of children about it. "Wow," they squealed, "what about a one-legged dog?"

I had a friend in high school with a three legged dog. The dog lost his leg in an accident when my friend and his sister were kids: they promptly dubbed him "Tripod." As for the one-legged version, what else would the Monopods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopod_%28creature%29) keep as pets?
