Saints and chicory, I need to swear off caffeine again. Especially when staying in another room to wait out its side effects isn't an option. (I even considered taking my laptop and overcoat into the bathtub, but the walls of this hotel are exceedingly thin and the fan in the bathroom awfully loud.)
On the bright side, I'd finished a poem and a report before turning in, and I spent a good portion of theforced unexpected meditation time working out a couple of haiku, reconsidering a note I'd dashed down yesterday (but hadn't yet mailed), and untangling a handful of plot points. So, not a total loss. Even though I also couldn't resist making pointless lists such as this one:
Five things I want my nieces and nephews to learn sooner than I did.
1. Life isn't fair. Nonetheless, it is in itself a gift.
2. People are often more complicated than they get credit for...
3. ...but it isn't always your job to accommodate said complications.
4. Likewise, your own complicatedness ain't no else's priority. [Link via Mindful Life.]
5. Whining won't get you laid.
Other findings...
Organic poetry, so to speak.

[To a sixth-grade class, about Make Way for Ducklings]
Did you know ... that Mr. McCloskey had a dreadful time drawing those ducks? He finally brought six ducklings up to his apartment in order to get a closer look. In the end, because they kept moving around so much, do you know what he did? You may find this hard to believe, but I promise you it's true: in order to get them to hold still, he slowed them down by getting them drunk on wine!- Jim Trelease, The Read-Aloud Handbook
