I was plagued by nightmares last night (high school, you were twenty years ago and I want to be done with you, dammit!) so I indulged in the comfort of fic this morning in between other things. The fics listed in this post all include supporting OCs that I enjoyed meeting -- I'll theorize some other time about what delights me about OCs, but in brief, I like how they often bring out facets of the starring characters' personalities or histories (particularly when they do so with humor or sympathy) that they're unlikely to share with other canonical characters.

Why I reread it right away: I adored this Snape on the spot, and his explanation of how his parents met slayed me.

Ribbons's notes: Anyone using "big pink fluffy cobra" in their author's notes automatically gets points with me. And this story is so sweet and knowing and treats all of its characters with grace and humor. Percy's conversations with his siblings require a beverage warning:

George smirked and held up his hands in defeat. "Okay, fine. I'll just go around having enough sex for the both of us."

Percy smiled, but there was a hint of sadness to it. "I always thought you said you were on a mission to get enough for Fred, too?"

George laughed. "Three of us now then, is there? I best get started."

Ribbons's notes: Really nice blend of humor and realism here in tandem with Snape's ongoing interior monologue of pleasure-laced angst. Albus Severus here is a good and believable kid -- the phrase "I'm happy I got to meet you first. Usually it's James who gets to meet everyone first" really rang true for me.

Ribbons's notes: I know I've rec'd this series several times before, and it predates HBP, as well as several of Arsenic's others, but it's one that always come to mind when I get to thinking about OCs -- I really like how Hermione's adopted son perceives and relates to his two fathers.



[As I noted in my Snupin Santa sign-up, I am actually generally leery of fics featuring preg (m or f), young kids, or parenting as major themes. In the hands of the right authors, though... *commends the above to you*]
