Said fic being The Boxing Day Doctor Who Marathon. R-rated David Tennant/John Barrowman RPS. What? I have no shame (at least, not regarding my taste in reading. Some of my past hairstyles and partners -- well, that's a different story. So to speak)...

(1) "Person who really digs their job" is a major kink for me.

(1a) This is not unrelated to my preference for badass!Snape and kickass!Lupin stories.

(2) I'm not shabby at dialogue myself, but damn, Sam's in another league. Especially with lines like these:

"...you're damaged and attractive and my parents would disapprove," David blurts. "Those are the first three things I look for in a date!"

(3) I recognize these people. Not Tennant and Barrowman as they are in real life, but other people with similar frustrations and temptations. The sweet, the awkward, the sexy - it's a lovely mix.

God. I barely know who those actors are, but I saw that story on my flist before work this morning, and have since seen two recs for it. I am a not-so-secret RPS whore, so that's not helping. Shall have to check it out! Because yes, Sam is just one of the best writers out there. Fandom doesn't really matter.

You at least have seen a Torchwood episode, so you're WAY ahead of me there. Though it occurs to me that you may want to wait until you're caught up to read the fic, if you're determined not to be spoiled (I don't think there's any earthshaking revelations in there, but I wouldn't be the best judge).

(And this is me admitting that your tags the other day completely cracked me up. :-D )

I have never read *any* RPS before (um, unless you count accidentally clicking on some stuff another friend of mine writes, which involves people I've barely heard of, so I clicked away again...), but, as you say, this is Sam. So I had to at least try it. And, of course, I was hooked. It was wonderful, wasn't it?

Indeed. I gather I'm in a minority among the commenters - I clicked through because it was Tennant/Barrowman. (I do like Sam's work, but if it's not Snupin or Teddy Lupin slash, I don't tend to click through unless I'm ferociously avoiding something I ought to be working on...)

Oh, the fact that it was Tennant/Barrowman was an added inducement... *g*

I don't read everything Sam writes, sometimes because I'm not interested in the subject - I mean, I don't watch House, so House-fic would go right over my head. But most of his HP stuff bears a good look. At some point I will have to steel myself to print off Cartographer's Craft, for better ease of re-reading. And I think I'm now a chapter behind on Jack and Ellis, too.

I just couldn't get into Cartographer's - there was nothing wrong with what I read of it except that it just wasn't Snape/Lupin.

It may have been one of the first fics that made me realize I had an OTP in spite of myself. (And the snag is definitely on my end, since I've had the same reaction to several other major HP writers.) It feels weird being so non-omnivorous in this respect, but with my to-read list being several hectares long and stretching, it's probably just as well.

Sam hasn't written Snupin in a while and it makes me sad because he did the pairing so beautifully (as anyone who's explored my Info page should know). And, hey, I'll admit I read the story because it was Barrowman/Tennant, even though that's probably only my second RPS fic read out of desire (I had to check out a few LotR ones just to understand it and keep up on my pop culture).

It's funny. Sam wants to be a Dramaturg, but I think if he'd pull together an original novel or two, he'd sell well. Some people are just born to be creative....

love, lore
