The Valentine's Day after Berkeley all but proposes to her, Diana is alone again, because it turns out love is neither enough to make him behave nor to make her patient with his flaws when they become everyday annoyances rather than occasionally irritating quirks. Carol is single as well: she will always adore Bikky and his foster fathers, but they all get along much better now that she and Bikky have figured out that they're better as siblings than lovers.

When she and Diana go out for steaks on Valentine's Day, they don't talk about lovers at all, but about what they love: kicking ass at their jobs, kicking the ass of anyone who tries to give them shit, and the latest pairs of kick-ass high heels they've each acquired.

It's nice to see these two kick-ass women bonding! Also like the way that love doesn't change Berkeley's and Diana's personalities and automatically make everything perfect.

Glad you enjoyed it! While I like imagining a happy-ever-after for Berks and Diana (in part because I want Ryo to be right), there's a part of me that's terribly cynical about their odds -- but there I go being ambivalent about all the post-series stories again. ;-)
