I almost wrote about no longer writing Snape/Lupin for today's Poetic Asides prompt, which was to write a poem about "routines." That was the poem I half-wrote in my head during my shower, anyway -- but there was too much I wanted to put in it to finish it today, and I'm almost sure it's not a poem I want to write anyhow, because it's more like they're two former housemates who have moved on with their lives, and I with mine, and odds are good that there will be an enjoyable reunion at some point involving copious quantities of sex (them), alcohol (me), quoting of lyric poetry (both), and selective memory (aka "canon, shmanon"), and you know, even poems need more tension than that to engage more than already-well-disposed-towards-me passersby (and/or angst, and/or confession, and/or sheer gorgeousness, and/or zing), so the resulting poem would end up not being about me and the guys at all, but some composite narrator who would only be partly autobiographical, but most readers wouldn't realize the "partly" (why would they?) and that would annoy me all out of proportion.

Which is my long way of explaining why I ended up posting about yoga and music instead. I didn't officially commit to NaPoWriMo this year, since I already knew this month was going to chew me up before it arrived, but I haven't been able to resist participating in the PAD Challenge every day so far; the possibility of getting selected for the eBook is apparently enough to goose my muse, even though the odds are laughably slim (what with over 800 other poets responding to each prompt). Still, I'm pleased with what I've come up with so far, so even if I don't place anything in the challenge anthology, I should end up with 15-30 new pieces I can then revise and create my own manuscript around. I've been cross-posting the poems at Vary the Line.

I also finished drafting my ficlet for the Embracing Spring fest, so it's now with the beta. The rest of the "to write" list (both fan and original) is now on hold until July -- although saying things like that has historically been tantamount to plotbunny bait, so if you see a post from me two weeks from now about staying up all night with les andouilles from FAKE, you can laugh at my fool fate-tempting ways.

The rest of this month looks something like this:
* research and write hour-long course for client A
* copyedit book-length manuscript for client B
* plan a service, and write and deliver its sermon
* master second alto part to Verdi's Requiem
* become acquainted with the first alto part in case they need someone prepared to switch
* practice second soprano part for next month's chamber choir pieces (I sang them last year, but as an alto)
* skim second soprano part to The Armed Man so that I'm not sightreading it cold two rehearsals before Music Sunday (in June)
* pick up enough Czech to not be an ass when I wander around Prague next month (the performance of the Requiem is at Terezin)
* one board meeting; one trust meeting; one committee on ministry meeting; assorted work meetings and conference calls
* show up to three volunteer shifts and one fundraiser

There are also a gabillion miscellaneous chores, of course, and I was at the office until 20:30 tonight forcing myself to deal with some of them. China Dragon is not my first choice for Chinese carryout in this town, but it's comparatively cheap, it's open late, and they now offer honeydew-flavored bubble tea:

The snapshots don't do justice to the sheer unnaturalness of the stuff -- you wouldn't think there's such a thing as a "vivid" milky green, but I'm telling you, if I wanted to scare small children, I'd bring out this tea and wiggle it at them while making monster noises.

And all that said, it actually tasted good.

There were four fortune cookies in the carryout bag. The first one I opened tells me that "Generosity and perfection are your everlasting goals," and the second promises that "Your dearest dream is coming true."

Speaking of quests for perfection, my suppertime reading included this article about Sang Yoon's dedication to improving wine served-by-the-glass by storing it in kegs. I personally lack the kind of palate that can tell the difference between pinot noir and merlot sans labels, but I can relate to Yoon's "obsession" nonetheless.

(When I sat down to type this post, my original intent was just to link to the article and then reflect for a paragraph or two on how sloppy and imprecise I am in many areas (e.g., cooking, crocheting, yoga), and at times outright inept (e.g., figuring out where the hell my tongue is supposed to be in relation to my teeth when pronouncing foreign-to-me words). Yet I have been known to spend hours on the final line of a fic or poem, knowing the words to be almost right but not quite there yet. There's probably an essay I could assay about the relationships among attainability, compulsion, and permanence, but that's something else that will have to wait.)

It's funny, I was just feeling guilty about not writing much Snupin these days. I suppose it's because my fanon Snape and Lupin have achieved their happy ending and settled down together with two adopted sons and a dog. There's still more story to tell, but things are comfortable for them now, so there's no sense of urgency. While the Kikuchi/Onozuka relationship is still in the new and exciting phase, so those two have kind of taken over my brain. ^_^ That said, I may try to whip up a little something for the "Fool" challenge on lupin_snape.

I'm sad to hear there will be no more fic till July, but wow, I can certainly see why you're busy! I'll try to resist feeding your plotbunnies, tempting though it is! ~_^

I gave the fic a quick read just for the sheer fangirlish pleasure of it (squee!), and will sit down and go over it in detail within the next couple of days.

I've had that kind of bubbletea. That, mam, is no bubble tea. ~_^

Embracing Spring! :D And Fake!icons have begun, at least soppy romantic moments for the boys.

*HUGS*

Because I am slow to learn my lessons, I ordered mango bubble tea from the same place three nights ago. UGH. Apparently ice masks the taste of unmistakably synthetic chemicals. *shudder*

*and hugshugshugs, just because*

I have much the same feeling...I'm looking at Snape and Lupin in the distance, foggy and shrouded in nostalgia. I do have plans for one final haiku sequence, but other than that, I think I've done all I want to do with them. So sad, y'know?

*hugs*

I love reading about you and your writing thoughts...

Oh boba!
YUMMY!

I'll miss your Snupin writings dearly! Maybe sometimes you'll let a little bit of nostalgia dictate your way.

I actually dreamed up a Snape/Lupin/Tonks drabble for you while I was in New Orleans. Now to pull together the brain cells to actually write it... *hugs*

Lucky me! I wonder what inspired you in New Orleans? I'd love to know!

I miss Snape/Lupin. But I think it's more the feeling that I miss than reading or writing about the pairing...
