recs: some Tonks and some crossovers

One of the things I find most appealing about fandom is how funny it is. For instance, the other night I stumbled across a community called _cheeringcharms -- it's for Sirius/Remus and Remus/Tonks fics, and its header reads "Canine, Canine, Chameleon." Maybe it was being stoned on Waltussin that did it, but I laughed myself silly (ok, sillier) when I saw that.

(Still allergic to most SB/RL -- nothing against the writers, it's just not my ship -- but I peeked over there to read garlandgraves's Moth to the Flame. Per its summary: "What do you do when those you care about are torn from you one by one? You love them as hard as you can, for as long as you have them." SB/RL, RL/NT, and a prominent role for Andromeda. I advise having tissues within reach.)

The rest of this list is a mix of assorted Tonks-fic and various crossovers I've enjoyed. Some are hysterically funny, others sweet and sad:

Homesick by violet_quill. Tonks/Wilson, House/Wilson. The author calls it "crackfluff"; Tonks is marvelous here.

Pain and Magic, also by violet_quill. House and Snape gen-fic, although I adore this section:

"I liked the other doctor better," Snape grumbled.

Foreman lifted an eyebrow. "Doctor House? That's… unusual."

"I hate do-gooders." Snape snorted. "At least he's honest about his loathing."

Foreman and Chase exchanged a look before going back behind the X-ray machine.

"I think it's a match made in hell," Chase said.

"I'll make out the wedding invitations," Foreman added.

As long as I'm rec'ing violet_quill, there's also her Helpful Guide to Offing Tonks and Dear Diary (Snape/Tonks). And, r_becca wrote Learning Your Lesson (Lupin/Tonks/Snape threesome) for Violet.

pixychelle's How Severus Snape (Didn't) Kill Nymphadora Tonks created quite a stir over at lupin_snape last week, and rightly so. NT/RL, SS/RL. Judging from the other commenters' reactions, I think the turtledove line qualifies as an instant classic. And, it's giving me ideas for a Twelve Days of Christmas fic, but I need to concentrate on my contributions to yuletide and dearsanta, so if someone were to take that plot!prairie-dog and run away with it, I would be ever so grateful...

Better Hallucinations by vehiclesanimals. Tonks shows up in Hawkeye Pierce's tent.

The Intent to Be Lost by voleuse. BtvS Faith/Remus. Both sexy and sad:

His gaze dips down her neck, lower, and she smiles, leans forward on her elbows. "I kind of have plans after sunset," she begins.

The corner of his mouth quirks. "As do I."

The Last One by amberdiceless. Snupin. Warning: character death. Not exactly a crossover, but the two men's love of Tolkien is a key part of the plot.
