30/6/05 14:24A friend was hosting the early round at the Bluebird yesterday night, so the BYM and I took a break from work and snagged a table right at Phil Lee's elbow.
Phil loosened up the crowd with his references to Neil Sedaka and at least two songs that mentioned the joys of cleavage, and Amelia and Steve weren't slouches, but I'll remember the show mainly as the first time I got to see and hear Peter Cooper. "Nirvana Was Better Than Pearl Jam" was funny, and "Gospel Song" I want to hear again, but the song that really got the crowd roaring was his indictment of Strom Thurmond.
(I can't believe I just wrote that sentence. I love this town.)
