Calm soul of all things! make it mine
To feel, amid the city's jar,
That there abides a peace of thine
Man did not make, and cannot mar.

The New York Times holds forth on this "proud but awful moment":

To be frank, this is far from an ideal case. We would not have wanted our reporter to give up her liberty over a situation whose details are so complicated and muddy. But history is very seldom kind enough to provide the ideal venue for a principled stand. Ms. Miller is going to jail over an article that she never wrote, yet she has been unwavering in her determination to protect the people with whom she had spoken on the promise of confidentiality.

On a lighter note: foods chefs hate. David Waltuck, my man!

I don't know how I feel about the case; I'm not sure whether feedom of the press does or should protect confidential sources. But the Times article is beautiful and their point that reporters are not above the law but must sometimes practice civil disobedience makes me proud of them.

I should also have said that whatever the rules about confidentiality should be, this reporter promised it. So she's going to jail to uphold the integrity of her word. That's honorable, whatever happens with the rest of the morass.
