"...to the Tennessee Waltz / And I feel like I'm falling apart / And it's stronger than drink / And it's deeper than sorrow / This darkness she's left in my heart." - the lyrics Leonard Cohen added to my state song.
I was just listening to Dear Heather (borrowed from the library). I connected more with the CD booklet design (by Michael Petit; mainly drawings by Cohen) more than the actual music -- enough that I'm inclined to spend what's left of the evening with it (instead of what I should be doing, which is laundering bras and chasing down stray semicolons) and use it to springboard into a couple of freewrites.
Some more prompts (came up with these while preparing dinner) -- consider these a challenge, posse: should you feel so inclined, show me about...
* things that capture reflections... other than mirrors and eyes
* unexpected ways of mourning
* mushrooms in strange places -- or things that mushroom out of strange places
Also in the CD changer: Maria McKee, Ali Campbell (reggae? bouncy, anyway), Loreena McKennitt, and the Bob Curtis Trio (playing a jazz version of "Mi Y'Malel" that immediately made me think of Sesame Street...).
In the mental poetry-changer: earlier today,
cruisedirector posted a poem about painters by Muriel Rukeyser. I 'm not sure, though, whether I'll ever see those two words together -- that is, "poem" and "painters" -- without thinking of John Wieners. (And look! here's an entry I posted three (!) years ago that quotes both Rukeyser and Wieners...)
