23/1/08 15:47Irving Penn on photographing T.S. Eliot:
T.S. Eliot arrived at the studio early and sat on the steps until it was time to be photographed. His clothes were old and beautifully maintained. A grave, scholarly man, Eliot writes at home; in the afternoon, he works in his office at Faber & Faber, the publishing firm of which he is a director. Among London publishers it is said that he writes the best blurbs in the business.- from page 81 of Moments Preserved; requoted on page 162 of Master Images
