...to finish tuning up my husband's company van, I ended up browsing through the March 2006 issue of Esquire. On page 122-23, "The Style Map of the United States (and Puerto Rico)" offers the following conclusion:

And the most stylish state in America is...Kentucky. The bluegrass state has cranked out nine major style icons with a modest population of four million people. Beat that, New York!

[The style icons in question? "George Clooney, My Morning Jacket, The Derby, Muhammad Ali, Johnny Depp, Hunter S. Thompson, Allan Houston, Chuck Wooley, Col. Sanders." For Tennessee? "Isaac Hayes, Quentin Tarantino, Justin Timberlake, coonskin caps."]

Ha ha, go us! Although I have to ask: coonskin caps? Is that for Davy Crockett? 'Cause Daniel Boone totally invented the coonskin cap, and he's one of ours....

Beats me. As far as I'm concerned, the only one whose style I want anywhere near my fashion is Mr. Isaac.

I was about to ask where the women on that list were before I remembered: Esquire. Duh.

And according to wikipedia (so take it with a grain of salt) we're both right on the coonskin cap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coonskin_cap) issue.

It's a pretty funny issue, all in all. What amused me even more was a survey they did of women's magazines' staffers on what they (didn't) like seeing on men (fashion-wise), and while I didn't bother taking notes on that one, I do remember that the top-ranked "item I like to steal from my man's closet" was "his worn button-down shirt" -- which, judging from the six I just put in the Mending Hearts box, was definitely true of me until the past year...
