If it's any reassurance, I once broke a microfilm *reader* while looking up a 16th-century trial. It's research; it happens.

Erk. Klutziness is still trouncing grace, I fear -- today it was a skirt. The split seam is now several inches higher than it should be... *sigh*

(I'm perpetually mildly terrified one of those machines is going to croak on me one of these days. They never sound exactly healthy even when they're working properly, y'know?)

No kidding. Plus, I feel like if it's something so fragile that the microfilms librarian feels s/he has to sit four feet away and stare at me all the while I'm using it, maybe it's something best not put out for public use.
