  • At Karen Eisler's online garden party: sheep! (search for "Obersteiner" or scroll about halfway down; link is VERY image-heavy!)

  • In With a Little Luck, a book I was reading from during last week's shift at the Talking Library, Dennis Brindell Fradin writes about the goatherd who discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls:

...nearly all the authors who have written about him have referred to Muhummad by the wrong name: Muhammad Ed-Dhib or something similar. Dr. John C. Trevor, who knew Muhummad and provided the photo of him for this book, told me in 1986 that "Edh-Dhib" is actually a nickname. It means "the Wolf" in Arabic and was given to Muhummad at the time of his birth because his father was said to be "fierce as a wolf."

  • Via [personal profile] seperis, Richard Adams reporting on both wolves and sheep being invoked at the Goldman Sachs Senate hearings:

"Were you approached by Graywolf?" asks McCaskill, sounding like she's reading lines from an upcoming X-Men movie staring Hugh Jackman's father.

...compared with Levin's bite, this is like being savaged by a dead sheep. In this case, a not very bright dead sheep.
