Some new, some old... (and the icon is in honor of the season, as it was a present to me from one of last year's exchanges)...
"Thirteen Months" - by Anon, for
sor_bet, Lupin/Snape, 6K, NC-17
http://community.livejournal.com/lupin_snape/925540.html
Author's summary: The Wizarding World has forgiven Snape, but Snape hasn’t forgiven the Wizarding World. And gardening.
Why I liked it: The plants, the quotes, the hapless students, the layers of emotion and reticence...
Quote: "Lupin was already gone. The man was not stupid. He hadn’t left any traces of himself, but pale green leaves veined with red--bergamot, Snape recognized--were poking through the darker green of Snape’s Mauling Mint."
"Erstwhile Expectations" - by Anon, for
valis2, Lupin/Snape, 4K, R

What it's about: Snape has orders to retrieve a Horcrux and kill its guard. The guard is Lupin.
Why I liked it: House affiliations are relevant to the characterisations. The characters are adults, and complicated. And, it's far from clear until the ending whether either Snape or Lupin will survive the encounter.
Quote: "He'd never grown comfortable with so much knowing, so much feeling, even as he trusted it to keep him alive. One thing he'd learnt was what was given could be taken away. This knowing was a gift. So since his earliest days he had waited to see if it would go even as he wondered why he had been gifted in the first place."
"Night-Blooming Heartease" - by Julad. Snape/Neville, "longish." Unrated - for adults. Character deaths.
http://yearningvoid.net/stories/julad/000080.html
What: A classic. I've rec'd it before, but as has been pointed out, there are always new readers... There is gardening. There are explosions, both of temper and of potions.
Another reason I liked it: Blinky the house-elf is a gem.
Quote: "Neville's Gran had always said what her fanged geraniums liked best was friendly company and the smell of her lemon butter cake with a nice pot of Darjeeling. Neville didn't have any cake, or Darjeeling for that matter, but he tried to be the best company he could."
"Alternative Therapy" - by
lyras. Gen: Neville, Harry. 2K. Reference to character deaths.
http://community.livejournal.com/nevillosity/145167.html
What: Neville copes with Harry, and with grief, by tending the garden.
Quote: "The next day, Neville brings supplies and begins planting his memories. This clary sage is Ginny smiling up at him during the Yule Ball, when he pretended not to notice how she watched Harry out of the corner of her eye the entire evening."
"False Start" - by
florahart. Neville/Draco, NC17, longish. For Smutmas 2004.
http://community.livejournal.com/merry_smutmas/69535.html
nqdonne's summary: Summary: "Years after he was exiled in the war for a crime he did not commit, having turned to prostitution to pay for his fledgling plant shop, Neville receives an unexpected customer in the form of Draco Malfoy."
Quote: "Neville dressed carefully on Friday, wavering several times between clothing appropriate for tea, and clothing appropriate for gardening. It was the most impossible combination of activities he could think of to try to dress for."
I'm off to work, and then it's off to the north, so my online access will be intermittent or nonexistent over the next handful of days. Here's wishing all y'all a grand weekend, and for those of you who celebrate Christmas, a beautiful and blessed holiday as well. Thank you so much for reading and for being a presence in my life.
ETA: An early happy birthday! to
corvidae9, one of the wildest and wonderfullest chicas on my f-list. Here's wishing you a splendid year, hon! (And if you want a drabble, leave a prompt and I'll serve something up when I get back. *hugs*)
