Saints and tartans, people, if you're going to write fic about her, show some respect and spell her name right! Look it up in the books! Check the HP Lexicon! I've seen it misspelled ten ways from Wednesday the past three days, and while I like to think of myself as reasonably tolerant of typos (one of my closest friends is dyslexic, I am the daughter of non-native writers of English, and this is the 'net), the epidemic of "McGonigle"s, "Mcggonagal"s, "Macgonnigal"s, and other horrors is making me wish I could turn their perpetrators into newts...

The oooh!:

sevys_now, an LJ comm dedicated to "fics, fanarts, montages et avatars" about Snape in French. Which I'm not letting myself peruse at the moment, though, 'cause, you know, fics to finish and such. Maybe after the holidays...

The observation:

Last night, while researching something else, I came across an essay on Herman Melville published in 1996 ("Herman-Neutics"). Given how many posts and comments I've seen lamenting and/or lambasting the range of reactions to Dumbledore's outing, it seems worth noting that determinedly dodgy interpretations, high-minded hagiography, and heated debates sparked by non-canonical goings-on did not originate with HP fandom and certainly won't fade with it.
