Rineharts; Tarot
20/11/13 10:07You know you're a nerd about publishing industry history when you, having read part of Charlotte MacLeod's Had She but Known: A Biography of Mary Roberts Rineheart the night before, wake up thinking about how two of her sons were the "Rinehart" of Farrar & Rinehart and then you realize, oh! that's where the "Rinehart" of Holt, Rinehart & Winston is probably from. (And you look it up to be sure, and you are then reminded that you aren't that much of a nerd, because you'd still be reading Publisher's Weekly if you were and you'd already know that the house is now Holt McDougal [which is in turn owned by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt], and it speaks of your current specialties that your main concern with any of these houses these days is having to correct mis-listings of "Farrar, Straus and Giroux" in bibliographies ("Straus" showing up as "Strauss" more often than not).
(The other rabbit hole I fell in this morning was the Velveteen Rabbi's post on Tamar, which eventually led to some analyses on what exactly happened between Boaz and Ruth, which... *flaps hands, resolutely turns back to the list*)
I had some errands on the list today, but having just spent five minutes wondering where I'd misplaced the rectangle of peppermint bark I'd intended to have for breakfast, staying home seems prudent.
Tarot: Luisa Igloria is inviting artists to contribute to her chapbook.
